How Room Interiors Impact your Sleep

bedroom interior design, home design

The interior of your room significantly affects the sleep quality by affecting the human brain’s alertness, relaxation & comfort levels. Sleep is influenced by several factors.
1) For a relaxing sound sleep, the bedroom shall include calm & soft colours, reduced noise levels, layered & optimal lighting, and maintain a cool temperature of the room, avoiding clutter, which helps to keep the mind at rest and promotes the circadian rhythm of the body.

2) Colours & Psychology: Low-saturation colours such as muted blues, soft greys, and earthy neutrals reduce anxiety and promote calmness. Bright, high-saturation colours like vibrant red, yellow, or orange stimulate the brain and hinder sleep.

3) Lighting Control: Blackout curtains, blinds, or smart lighting are essential for controlling natural and artificial light, which supports better melatonin production. Use of smart lighting options and a layered light setup to control natural and artificial lighting options, which allows natural melatonin production.

4) Decluttering and Layout: A clean, tidy and minimalist room prevents mental strain & fatigue and promotes a peaceful sleep. You shall position your bed away from high-traffic areas & noisy environments.

5) The doors and windows shall be installed in accordance with noise-cancellation standards to prevent excessive noise that might cause chaos and hypertension.

6) Sensory Details: Soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, alongside including textures that feel soft and comfortable, make the room more inviting and peaceful

7) Aromatherapy & Ventilation: Using scents such as lavender or jasmine can facilitate faster sleep onset. Also, having perfect ventilation in the room prevents suffocation and accumulation of negativity while promoting quality sleep and a comfortable sleeping environment

8) Functionality: Limiting the bedroom to rest and avoiding multi-functions like watching TV, doing work and having meals in the bed ensures that the brain relates the bedroom to the place to sleep and rest rather than other activities.

9) Technology zoning and creating tech-free zones in the room to avoid blue light exposure. Create a section for reading books and journaling to prevent phone scrolling at night.
